Cultural axis<\/h1>\n

The trail leads from the founding site of the abbey, which quickly grew in power, to the place where the Benedictines opened a new, significantly larger monastery complex just ten years later. Visitors have a largely unobstructed view of the now green monastery dune with its three Carolingian buildings.
As you approach the site, you pass through a wetland meadow that gives an idea of the original landscape in the early Middle Ages. UNESCO has made it a duty of the World Heritage Site to preserve and shape this visual axis between the two UNESCO core zones, which is fortunately not overdeveloped, and to preserve its landscape. The aim here is to raise awareness of the agrarian references and the landscape conditions of the people who lived here at the time.
