Visitor Information Center
The new visitor information center built in 2014 also functions as a building for museum education and as a gateway into the Lauresham open-air laboratory from the early Middle Ages, with which it was deliberately designed to provide the greatest possible architectural contrast. In contrast, the building was to blend in visually and semantically with the surrounding agricultural landscape. The building (HG Merz Architekten Stuttgart) was awarded the Metzendorf Prize in 2018. It was originally conceived as the entrance building to the World Heritage Site, after passing through the Altenmünster mother monastery (Core Zone I), the area monument can be accessed chronologically via the circular route of the cultural axis.
